How Big will GPT-4 Be?

And the latest Twitter rumours on GPT-4's arrival date, size and more.

After a bunch of creators are monetizing their content with GPT-4 rumors, I thought it might be interesting to survey said rumors.

One step towards the Machine Economy, let’s go!

Since it’s highly speculative, I’m only sending this out to the few supporters of this Newsletter.

The day for the release of GPT-4 is getting closer.

A.I. anticipation is giving us a chance to ignore fact-checking and say something outladish on Twitter, Reddit, or Substack (for that matter). According to a new A.I. writer on Substack: In 2020, GPT-3 surprised everyone with a huge performance leap from GPT-2 and set unprecedented expectations for its successor.

Yes that’s usually the way things work.

However people are saying things on Twitter that are a bit amusing to follow.

Here’s what I found: (let me just say I have no idea who these Twitter folk are)

Meta’s missteps over its Galactica LLM public demo, does make you wonder about how LLMs are used. (Which incidentally reminds me of the show Battlestar Galactica).

In July 2022, OpenAI launched DALLE2, a state-of-the-art text-to-image model. In early 2023, we’ll be due for GPT-4, my guess is in April, 2023.

Though will it really be that big?

The hype generation on Twitter and elsewhere is really getting out of hand. LinkedIn is just as bad for things like Quantum computing, which I cover. This sort of “rumour” amounts to pumping up OpenAI which amounts to pumping up Microsoft, their main sponsor.

1. The rumors for GPT-4 are that it's as big a leap over GPT-3 as GPT-3 was over GPT-2 and that it will be arriving within months. 2. Even though this is an incredible inflection point in the history of civilization, to most people (1) might as well be gibberish.

I did not find significant rumors that help me understand how significant GPT-4 will be above GPT-3, in earth years, already 2.5 years later after GPT-3.
